For years since it has been invented, car has made our journey from place to place to be easier and faster. But, what makes our car easy to steer? The answer is mainly on the good steering mechanism. Without that, we can’t control and steer our as we want. It can result an accident.
The steering mechanism we know is Rack Pinion. This mechanism is structured by a rack that is connected to a steering arm and tie rod and also a pinion or a gear that is connected to a steering shaft. Both components make it easier when turning the wheel. When we turn the steer wheel, the pinion will slide over the rack. It will force the wheel to turn as the steering wheel turn. The car will make a turn either to the right or the left.
Both the power steering and the manual steering have this mechanism. The difference is only that in the power steering, the rack will be connected to fluid lines and piston. In Rack Pinion mechanism, the steering ratio determined and it usually depends on each car.
